constant licking

Rating: 9
sidney
sidney

sidney has been having an on and off problem with her leg for a year.

She licks it all the time in the same spot in the "arm pit" of her light leg. She is some times lame and then it goes away.

We had a lump removed and she was OK for a month but now it fills with fluid and she bites/licks it open again.

We have put a cone collar on her for 4 weeks and she just starts licking it again when we take it off.

We have given her antibiotics three times for infection.

What is it???

    Hello!

As the infection hasn't cleared after 3 lots of antibiotic medication I would be inclined to take her to the vets to get the lump analysed, removed OR the fluid under the skin drained. Any mass under the armpit will be inclined to get in the way of moving if it grows and is also in an easy position for her to have a nibble at hence you having to use the buster collar so much.

Was the last lump removed analysed at a lab?

the first lump was removed and just by sight the Vet said it did not look like cancer. This last issue was a fluid build up and sidney bit it to drain it. Now she is just licking the open wound A LOT and limping a bit.

It best that the vet drains the fluid off using a fine needle to try to make Sydney more comfortable. This will hopefully allow the lump to subside as the fluid is then gone. In the meantime, you could try putting a T-shirt on Sydney to cover that area
