sick cat

6 days ago my cat stopped eating and drinking. he's been throwing up frothy yellow green liquid, he's lethargic but still purrs when we pet him. he hasn't gone to the bathroom. we took him to the vet and they couldn't give us a definitive answer. they ran blood tests and he doesn't have feline luekemia or FIV, they gave us prednisone to give him for his appetite but its not working. i've been trying to feed him with a syringe but he just gags and i can't get much food or water in him.his eyes are clear but they are usually closed, and he is not meowing in pain. the vet said it could be cancer but we don't know why he won't eat or drink, please help, i love my cat, he was my first child, i just don't know what to do.

I will try to help...First & I hope this does not upset you for this question, but it will help me help you.

Is cost a problem, or you can do 300 - 600 dollars?.

The reason I ask is this. 6 days is way too long for a cat, after about 36 hrs sometimes longer, No food in the system will start to effect the kidneys.and with vomiting Simon should be on I.V. Fluids.

I.V. Fluids for even just 12 hrs can be all the difference for 30% of cases,Now I have to say that sometimes it takes 3 - 5 days depending on what the problem is. X-rays can help find tumors, foreign items the animal ate etc. since he's not eating or drinking he won't have anything to pass.

I'm not a Vet,but I would be thinking...without seeing him, possibly a tumor somewhere or he ate string or something that got stuck and will not let any food/water pass.

whatever the reason something needs to be done real soon. even if he needs to do exploratory on Simon he would need to be on I.V. fluids for maybe 2 days, he's too weak right now to survive the surgery.

One option is get all your test results and seek a second opinion.

    Keep me posted Okay...

unfortunately cost is an issue, i wish it wasn't, otherwise he would be hooked up to an iv until he got better. the best we could do for him was give fluids subcutaneously, and try to get liquid into him thru a syringe by mouth and he isn't taking that well. when they put water under his skin at the vets the next day he urinated once, but nothing since. my husband and i are very distraught and wish someone could tell us why he won't eat. isn't there anything else it could be? at first i thought it was the flu or something but he has no fever, the vet told me his body temp is actually lower than normal.he doesn't seem to be suffering, i just keep on holding out hope that he'll just get better.he's always been so healthy and active before this.

Well????? let's say it's none of the things I mentioned earlier. I've seen a few cases were the teeth in the cat were so bad it it was too painfull to eat.

Re: blood work do you know was it only for luekemia & FIV,or was it more like a cbc with a minor/major workup?.

was anything else done like checking urine, xrays or ultrasound?.
