Dog constantly licking/vomiting

Hi, I wrote a while back about allergies or infections. I had the vet do a throat wash on Daisy a week or so ago and finally got the results. There is no bacteria in her throat, so I guess we're ruling out any respiratory infection. The vet said it could all be allergy related, but I'm also wondering if she could have a sinus problem? She sometimes snorts and swallows briefly after she drinks water. One vet that I had her to suggested she might have a problem swallowing, like a gag reflex problem. But to me it seems more plausible that it would be an allergy. Can they do allergy testing for airborne allergens in dogs? I know they can test for food allergies.

     Hi

what exactly is she doing, does she drink really fast?

some dogs drink fast and may inhale water, going down the wrong pipe, some dogs swallow air when they drink or eat.

it's possible that she has something up her nose.

We had a dog last year come in for constant sneezing from another vet, to the point wear blood is coming out. we sedated the dog and put a small scope up the nose..guess what we found??? A long blade of grass.

dogs & cats are always getting into something, fish hooks, sticks jambed into the gums of the mouth.

sometimes the animal ate something that irritated the back of the thought.

As far as testing for allergies Yes!. they test for I think it's 20 or 30 things. dust mites, molds, rag weed and so on. it's not cheap,I think 200 or 300 dollars.

well I hope I helped you.

    regards, Barry

Hi Barry, thanks for your info. Sometimes she does drink fast, yes. I guess I'm just at my wits end about what to do with her. Whatever is wrong with her has pretty much started running our lives. She will be fine one minute, then the next minute she's frantically licking and swallowing. Sometimes she can do it for hours, picking up anything off the floor and eating it (something she doesn't normally do). When she does it for an extended period she'll start spitting up white mucus. I can't leave her because I'm afraid she'll eat something and end up hurting herself. This has been happening off and on for months now, almost since we got her back in Sept. We've had x-rays, blood work, and a throat wash done. All results were normal. We've tried various antihistamines (we're pretty sure she has allergies), as well as antibiotics and steroids. Now one of the four vets I've been to wants to put her on Reconcile, an anti-anxiety drug. Is this drug used for anything else? I guess I just don't see how it would be anxiety. I'm here when she does it, sometimes she does it after she's been chewing a toy, sometimes she does it when she's just lying down relaxing, and she's even done it after playing with our other dog. I'm just so frustrated and desperate to find an answer.

Also, she can go a week in between these "fits" as well. Sometimes longer, sometimes shorter.
