    Hi there,

Sorry to hear about your chinchilla, she is still quite young so she may be able to be sorted, but it sounds like she will need some intensive nursing. Firstly she needs to see a vet so they can check the teeth and to see how bad the malocclusion is. Its quite obvious to see if the front teeth are misaligned as the protruding teeth are evident, but the molars at the back are hard to see and as all their teeth continually grow the teeth will develop spurs (sharp edges) that can cause great discomfort and mouth ulcers. The roots of the teeth grow longer which can cause problems with their nasal passages  and hinder their breathing, they dont like breathing through thier nose.

As the teeth are long she can't eat properly or swallow properly which means she will lose weight, and the bloating can be caused by the lack of food as the gut stops working.

Management : Regular Veterinary Check ups and teeth clipping or the incisor teeth can be removed, but this involves a general anaesthetic, which at the moment would not be advised as she sounds quite ill.

the back teeth will need regular checking.

a good quality diet with plenty of good quality hay can help the teeth and the guts.

Hope that you can get her sorted but she really needs to see a vet ASAP.

    Regards
