lump on stomach

Hi,

I asked a question a little while about about allergies, etc. The vet did a throat wash on my beagle mix a couple of days ago to see if there's an infection. We haven't gotten the results back but last night I noticed a lump under her skin on her stomach. It's right in the place where the surgery was done for her spaying. I know the lump just came up because previously I'd had the vet look her over in that spot. There had been some tiny lumps that the vet said were probably just part of the material used to close her and would go away eventually. The lump that is there now is the size of a marble, doesn't seem to cause any pain, and feels fairly hard. I know when they did the throat wash they put a tube in her throat, flushed in a saline solution and then sucked it back out. Is it possible that they could have caused a hernia? If not, what else could it be? I'm going to call the vet first thing tomorrow (Monday) and ask them, assuming it doesn't get any worse. Any ideas would be great! Thanks!

I am sorry to hear of your dogs problems, but I can say with almost certaintly that the two things are not linked. I can't see any possible way of the throat wash causing a hernia. What is more likely though is a reaction to any suture at the old spay site or even a separate lump forming that is unrelated to anything else. I always like to hear that any new lump is not painful or bothering the patient. Is it red at all? or just normal skin colored?

It is something though that your vet should check over at some point. they may decide to do a fine needle aspirate to see what it is or just to monitor the site

Thank you so much for your response, I'm glad to hear they're probably not related. It doesn't seem to be red and she doesn't act like it bothers her at all. It looks like it might be slightly bigger today than yesterday but as the day has gone on, it doesn't seem like it's gotten any larger. My plan is to just keep an eye on it until I can speak with the vet. It's definitely right on the spot where she was closed... I think they used some kind of glue. Anyway, thank you for your help!

Hi again! I spoke with someone at the vet's office this morning. They told me that I could probably just keep an eye on it over the next few days, that it didn't sound like something that was an emergency. She also said if I really wanted to bring her it today I could, but that it probably wasn't necessary right now. Thanks!
