I cannot get my toy poodle to EAT...she was recently in the hospital for twonights hooked up to an IV with Dextrose & Potassium (she was very low)and diagnosed with juvenile hypoclycmia and low potassium (they did an xray and blood work and ruled out a liver shunt). I have to force feed her puppy can food (at the vet's suggestion) every 2 -2.5 hrs. (I can only get maybe a teaspoon in her at a time & that takes 20 mins.)she got home thursday and Friday she was fine....now yesterday she had diarhea and today and over the night so far too...can potassium supplements give her diarhea? How can I get her to eat???She is 1 lb. 12 oz. and almost 4 months old. I love her so much and it kills me to see her this way...I hope she grows out of it soon. Her breeder started her on ground chicken and scrambled eggs...I did that for a few weeks but then she stopped eating that we tried fried ground beef she loved it then stopped then chopped up fried liver she loved it then stopped. I scrambled an egg this morning & she won't go near it. I have added Pediatric Ensure to her canned puppy food...I don't know what else to do...we have added cottage cheese to her food too....the hospital wants me to call them back on Monday to let them know how she is doing....today willbe a long day....she just lays in her bed and goes back and forth to the puppy pad and to get water. Oh & I give her puppy Nutrical and sometimes Karo syrup.

    Hello!

Hmm...Did your vets blood sample show nothing? It could also be dietary/behaviour related. A number of dogs like certain foods, get bored of it and then refuse to eat it until they become ill because of this. It's great to stick to one typr of puppy food and just keep persevering with it until they do eat it.

Does your vet think there is a problem with her from the work ups/investigations carried out so far??

I am not a vet, but my dog did something similar and it turns out he has Addison's Disease. Your symptoms sound exactly like the symptoms of this disease. My dog now takes steroids and gets a shot once a month and is doing fine. He didn't eat, became lethargic, and eventually ended up in shock and almost died. Luckily our vet is wonderful and checked immediately. Did your vet check for this? It is rare, but a possibility nonetheless. I hope your puppy is doing better, but if not, maybe check with your vet. Good luck!
