Hi there, Is the damp patch near the tail area? If so it is probably Wet Tail Syndrome, a stress-related bacterial infection that is common in hamsters. It can sometimes be accompanied by diarrhea, but not always. Treatment is removing the infected droppings from the cage regularly (nb cleaning out the bedding too frequently makes the hamster more stressed, so try and remove just the droppings), a course of antibiotics (usually oral baytril syrup) and rehydrating the hamster if diarrhea develops.
