please help

Lucky

My cat is ten years old. He started with a cough(similar to that of a hairball). Brought him to the vet. Had an upper respiratory infection. Put on Penisilan. Didn't get better. Had blood work and x-rays and found a cloudy mass on his lung. Put him on orbax tablets 22.7mg(1/2 tablet per day) and still hasn't gotten better. He doesn't really eat. I have to feed him through an eye dropper with baby food mixed with water. When he does eat, he only eats a couple bites and turns his head to the left when he chews. Seems like he has a hard time eating or swallowing. He goes to the bathroom and sleeps all day and night. He is awake some, but only lies there. He still purrs and meows. I just don't know what to do. Please offer any advice that you can. Thank you. Bonny

    Hi,

If Lucky is getting no better then the best thing to do is to take him back to your vets. The other this I would recommend is a follow up x ray to check on the progress being made with treating this problem. There are other options such as asking your vet to refer you to a specialist who may suggest further tests to help find an exact diagnosis for Lucky.

Things you can try at home are putting him in the bathroom after you have had a shower as the steam may help clear his airways. Is he on any painkillers? I wonder if the eating is related to being painful? I would ask your vet to prescribe some painkillers if he seems painful.
