my cat is 8 yrs old and has just recently been going potty any where he chooses but not his box.
What can i do about this??

Sometimes urinary track infections (UTI) are common in male cats. I would recommend having him checked out at the vet. If your vet gives him a clean bill of health, than you can look at behavioral issues, such as a change in environment or routine, or a change of litter brands too. Best regards!
