I was cutting my dog's toenails and cut too close and now her foot is bleeding. How long should I let this go on before I get concerned? She is not limping, but bleeding quite a bit.

Hi there,
When you cut into the vein in a dogs claw it will bleed suprisingly heavily, as you have discovered! You could try a couple of things: hold a piece of cotton wool to the claw and apply pressure to stop the bleeding (you will need to do this for some time); or if you have a bar of soap handy you can rub this onto the claw to act as a seal.
For future reference when cutting claws aim to cut 2-3mm away from the vein (you will see a pink line running through the middle of the claw). If your dog has black claws this will not be visible and it tends to be a guessing game so just take off a tiny bit at a time. You can use any white claws that she may have as a guide for the black ones.
Hope this helps!
