Increased Panting and thirst

I've noticed my 8 month old golder retiever is panting a lot more in non-active settings. He also drinking a lot more water. He was neutered 6 weeks ago so I am not sure if this is contributing. I live in Atlanta GA and the wether has gotten a little bit warmer which could be a factor. Does these seem normal or should I take him into the Vet?

Thanks,

Max

Hi. Panting is generally a heat regulation mechanism, so if the weather has got warmer this would account for it, and for increased thirst. However, if it is a very noticeable increase in water consumption and increased urination, there may be an underlying medical problem. It's hard to see how it could be related to neutering, although in theory a prolonged post-op infection might cause this, but you'd probably see other things too. Can you measure exactly how much he is drinking? If it is more than 50ml per lb bodyweight per day, take this information and a urine sample to your vet. Good luck..
