Canine Degenerative Myopathy

Rating: 8
Dakota
Dakota

Our dog had an episode where he could not walk for a period of about 3 days. We took him to emergency hosptial where they did many tests. They gave him a steriod and that helped a lot. This was about 8 years ago. There was no diagnosis found. He is having it again now. I looked up his symptoms and they are just like Canine Degenerative Myopathy with the exception that it states these dogs die within a year of onset. It has been 8 years and our dog has been great until now. Can this disease go away for several years and reoccur?

    Hi,

It is unlikely that the problem you were seeing 8 years ago was canine degenerative myopathy, given the time course. This could well be a flare up of the previous disease. Any condition such as this needs consideration in a new light so I would recommend a vet examination for Dakota as soon as possible as your vet will be able to be more specific having conducted his exam.
