Sarcoptic Mange

Dear Sir/Madam,

Please can you help me - I got a puppy from a dog rescue centre - Bailey and he had mange (unknown at the time). I also have an elderly dog.

When my puppy was diagnosed as having sarcoptic mange by the vet last month we told the vet that we have another elderly dog at home that can not travel to the vet and probably going to the vet would kill him now. We asked what we could do for him - we were told to boil all bedding, put the flea ointment at the back of his neck and wash him in a medicated shampoo or a shampoo with sulphur. We did, even though at that time my elderly dog did not have any signs of mange.

When my puppy went for his baths at the vet this is when my elderly dog showed rapid signs of mange. We have been trying creams (D-Mac, Lyclear) for scabies (because unfortunately some of my family have also caught the human form from the puppy), shampoos for headlice (lyclear) and washing him every week in sulphur shampoos or shampoos that should kill head lice. We have also been using insecticide sprays around the house.

Please can you recommend any treatment we can use at home for the elderly dog, because going to a vet would truly probably kill him and we don't want to lose him.

Please any help would be gratefully appreciated.

Lee

    Dear Lee,

The treatment for sarcoptic mange which you require is called Revolution. It is a liquid which you put on the back of the dog's neck. Your Vet can supply you with this or you can buy it online with a prescription at entirelypets.com
