My 2 Min Schnauzers (1 & 4) have started eating their own feces then vomiting later. We feed Hill's Science Diet. What's up with This?

Hi,
I am sure that this problem is behavioural rather than anything else. The answer is to stop them eating their faeces I'm afraid, so that means watching over them in the park/yard and clearing it up before they have the chance.

My boyfriend's mother has a Westie who does this. Dogs will sometimes eat their own feces because they are lacking a vitamin or mineral. Most often it is that they are not getting enough Potassium. You can try feeding your dog a banana to help with this. You will also want to make sure that you discourage the behavior and reward her for not eating it when she is around it. Over time the behavior will be unlearned and the desire for the dog to eat the poop will diminish as the nutritional needs are being more fully met.
