my beagle has a black, bulbous growth inside his lip, could this be cancer? He is eating fine, it doesn't seem to hurt him.

Hi there, thanks for the informative picture.
That certainly looks like a cancerous lump, but could be less sinister than that. The only way of finding out for sure is to take a sample (biopsy), which needs to be done under a general anaesthetics. How fast did this lump appear? If it came up fast it is also likely to grow fast, and eventually cause him distress or pain. So the sooner you find out what this is the better! This definitely warrants a visit to the vet.
I hope he will be ok!

His last vet visit was just shy of a year ago and they never mentioned anything. I just happened to notice his cheek looked a little puffy last night and was shocked when I flipped up his lip to find that, so it's just been a year, at the longest. We've got a vet scheduled for saturday.

A tumour would definitely be on the top of my list of differentials, I hope your vet will be happy to take a biopsy to find out what this is. Hopefully it is not malignant.
Please let me know how you get on, it would be interesting for me to find out what this turns out to be.
