Bloated Newt

My newt is bloated. I Googled it & think it is kidney failure. What should I do? The bloating is everywhere, not just belly and neck.

    Hi there!

It is difficult to find any information about newts, as they are not the most common pet. There is very little literature about diseases of newts, and any amphibians for that matter. They are very different for mammals when it comes to any disease as they have regenerating abilities, and when it comes to diagnosis and treatment of the diseases you need to got to a specialised veterinarian. So if this bloating goes on and you are worried, then you should find your nearest vet that deals with amphibians and reptiles. Your local vet may have information about the closest exotic expert.

If this is kidney failure, there is little we can do treatment-wise. However, from the signs you describe I do not think they are typical for kidney failure. In a dog or cat with subcutaneous edema, I would consider heart failure as an option, however, newts are completely different so an expert is called for here.

Sorry to not be of more help.
