Found out today that our 13yr old tortie seal point siamese cat, which was spayed when she way 6 months old, has got a phantom pregnancy. Our vet said this is extremely rare and has no idea what to do. He is making phone calls to universities etc but i was wondering if you have any advice on treatment for her??
My husband thinks that we should call some animal shelters and see if they have any orphan newborn kittens because he thinks that our cat it wasting milk

    Hello,

This IS a very unusual occurrence!  I've never heard of a cat who was completely (& properly) spayed having a false pregnancy!  She must have a rise in her level of prolactin (the hormone that causes milk production) - wonder if some of the reproductive tissue was left when she was spayed as a kitten??  That is an idea about calling the shelters about nursing kittens - something to ask your veterinarian about I would say.  Good luck!
