barking

Ender

My border collie barks insanely at most men. Sure, he's a skiddish breed, but his personality is so sweet when it's just our family. Is there any way to calm him down around new people?

  There is but you will need specialised help from a good dog behaviourist. Your vet will be able to give you the name of a qualified one. The behaviourist you talk to should explain to you that Ender will probably need de-sensitising and counter conditioning and taking small steps towards helping Ender cope better with men. If they start talking about choke chains, rattle cans or shock collars run a mile.

  The worse thing you can do is to get cross and punish Ender every time he barks this may make him worse as not only does he feel a bit worried every time a man appears but you do as well and to top it all he gets punished just because a man appears.
