Pregnancy

Cali just had 4 healthly, wonderful kittens on Saturday and I have been told by a couple of people to make sure she has had all the kittens. What signs would there be if she hadn't and what can I do to help if there is another kitten?

    Hi,

Has she stopped straining now? any further signs of labour?

If she still has a kitten then she would start to show signs of being unwell, maybe not eating or drinking, she wouldn;t be bright or lively. There might be a smelly discharge from her vulva.

Any kittens left would leave a build up of toxins in the body.

Keep an eye on her, if she is eating well, bright and alert then i wouldnt worry.

If you are really worried then a pop to your vets would clear up any worries.

    Regards

She is not straining, but was crying off and on yesterday and I could see where her side was tensing off and on, but that seems to have stoppped. She is bright and active, eating (alot) drinking water, nursing and tending to the new babies. I just figured it was her body going back to shape after the delivery but someone sugested maybe a kitten was stuck. Thank you for the quick response. I don't think there is a kitten stuck, I just wanted to make sure I wasn't missing anything.

If you are really worried then it is always worth giving your vet a ring or taking her in.

If she is bright and happy then things should be ok, but she would start to go down hill quite quickly if there is a dead kitten there.  She will eat alot as she is nursing and needs the extra nutrients.

Hope she continuess to be well.

    Regards,

    Selena
