Raven Stone

I have an 11 yr old black shepherd, Raven, who has been raised with cats. Recently he has been going after the cats and has subsequently killed 2 of them. I have 2 other dogs, also. There is one cat left, Snowball, who is Raven's buddy but I have caught him charging after Snowball. I am keeping the cat in a separate room when we leave. This is not like Raven something is wrong. Please help, this was horrible what happened to the cats?

    Hi Catherine

This must be very distressing for you. I assume this is a recent behavioural change? Raven is getting older and sometimes like humans dogs too suffer from age related problems. I would have a chat with your vet about any age related problems he might be having for instance does he sometimes seem not to recognise who you are or where he is are or has his sleeping patterns changed at all. There are some medical causes for this and you might be able to help him.

However, it might not be the case and he has just learned a fun new game. You will need a qualified behaviourist for this and I would make sure that snowball is kept safe away from Raven just in case but do not make them meeting an issue. For instance do not tell Raven off every time Snowball appears or the situation might worsen. Get help quick and start with your vet.

    Good luck

Good Dog? Bad Dog? By Rosie Barclay. This book concentrates on changing the traditional views of how we perceive and treat our dogs using what we have learned from scientific research so far. It starts at the beginning by looking at ways of how to chose and bring up a new puppy that may reduce the likelihood of future problems. It then goes on to cover different problems that commonly occur between owners and their maturing or adult dogs by discussing real case studies. TO BUY VISIT www.rosiebarclay.com
