Cat's Eyes

Rating: 6

I have a kitten who has had watery eyes the past few days. Now there is some goopy stuff that I am having to wipe away. His eyes look real irritated and a little puffy. Any suggestions as to what it may be and what we can do for him?

Hey there, thanks for the question.  Your kitty's problem may be a problem with just the eyes like conjuntivitis or uveitis but it could also be associated with a general bacterial/viral infection such as chlamydia or calicivirus.  Are there any respiratory signs- eg discharge from her nose, sneezing etc? If any of these are present, it's likely that the eye problem is part of a systemic infection.  Also, is she eating/drinking ok and and she still bright and active? You can keep her eyes clean with boiled (cooled) water but if this has been going on for a few days and the discharge is getting thicker, I reccommend that you have her examined by a vet fairly soon as some of these problems can cause long term problems in the eye and she is probably quite uncomfortable at the moment.  Hope this helps!
