I recently lost my best friend (casey aka-boo boo kitty) I had her for 18yrs. Driving home one night We found a kitten in a wet ditch in the freezing cold. I took him home to nurse him and find him a home. He had to have been about 6 weeks old. My 5yr old fell in love so needless to say we still have him. I was laid off from my job so cannot have all the tests run that he needs. I took him to my vet to get weighed and wormed. He is now about 7mos old, he sneezes all the time, he vomits only sometimes, he gets diarrhea all the time and passes mucus and blood in it. He can be walking in the house and the blood and mucus will just just drip out with stool as he has no control of it. He has terrible bad breath and drinks all the time, we cannot keep him water dish full enough for him. He was tested for giardia and it was negative, I couldnt afford any other tests, but I have a 5yr old and an 18mo old that I fear he is getting them sick. they seem to be getting sick a lot since we took him in, I don't want to have to get rid of him, it would break their hearts. He's a little angel and want to help him any way I can. I would greatly appreciate any info you could give me or advice of any sorts. Thank you very much!!!

There are many things that can cause diarrhea in a young kitten.  There are viruses that they are born with that can cause them as well as other illnesses.  Since a fecal test was performed and you dewormed the kitten, you can for the most part rule out parasites.  Dietary indiscretion?  Depending on the food you are feeding it could be that that is what is causing the diarrhea.  I would recommend trying a good quality diet.  Sticking to Purina Pro Plan, Iams kitten, Hills Kitten.  When switching diets you must do it over a 2 week period of time.  Gradually increasing the new foods amount.  You might have adopted a kitten that will need a special diet for the rest of its life.  They have more specialized diets at your Vet's but understanding that money is tight these are not inexpensive diets.  I wish you the best of luck.
