Excessive Humping Issue

Zeus

Our puppy Zeus has developed a problem where he will constantly hump dogs when we take him to the dog park. He has been neutered since he was about 5 months old and is now around 8 months olds. He seems to single out one particular dog at the dog park and continuely try to hump that one dog. We have tried pulling him aside for a certain period of time and increasing it each time he's done it, and we also tried taking him for a walk around the block that the dog park is on. Thefirst time we took him on a walk around the block it seemed to help, but since then he has gone back to his same old habits simply picking out another dog. Is there anything we can do to help prevent this behavior and/or correct this situation.
Thanks,
Morgan

Excessive humping is usually a sign of a dog seeking dominance over another dog or human.  I would recommend some obedience training and some social training.  They will help you to understand your dog a bit better.  On the why he is trying to be more dominant.  Taking him to dog parks and around people is excellent ideas just a little more structure and some direction on what you should do when your dog is displaying this behavior.  Good luck

He has been through basic obedience training classes, but we have not taken him to any sort of "social training" programs. Where can we find a class in this field?

I would recommend finding a behaviorist.  Some speciality offices have one.  If you do not have one in your area you can try some books by Cesar Milan.  good luck.  Andrea
