We just got a 3 year old male pug who is a little overwieght. He has a very strong urine odor and I was wondering if him being overwieght had anything to do with it. Also, what are some of the causes of strong urinary odor?

overweight shouldn't cause strong smelling odour. if he is not drinking very much his urine may become more concentrated and therefore stronger smelling. if he has a urine infection this may cause a strong odour. male dogs tend to have stronger smelling urine and unneutered animals can have a stronger odour due to scenting when passing urine. check he is not urinating any more than normal or there is blood in the urine as these can also be signs of infection. losing a bit of weight will help avoid problems such as arthritis so it is a good idea anyway eventhough it probably has nothing to do with his urine odour. hope this helps
