my dwarf hamster was walking in my hands when he stopped moving. i poked him, and he appeared to be dead. i quickly put him in his cage and he remained frozen in that position for about 2 minutes. i was going to scoop him out of the wood chips and when i moved the chips near him, he turned his head. i did it again a couple of times, and eventually he moved walked away, and burroughed into the chips. what happened? is this normal? thanks

i had a hamster that did this too, i think they become nervous or get shocked and its a prey reaction to remain still. hamster are also prone to hibernating especially when they are older. i'd advise just you just pop him back in his kennel and observe him in about 10-20 mins. hope this helps
