My cat has dry skin and pulls her fur out by the mouthfulls and scratches way too much. She is 12 years old and an inside cat only. What can I do about the dry skin?

have you treated for fleas or mites? if not apply a spot on treatment. it may also be an allergy, see if it flares up in certain area of the house to try and find what is causing it. ensure that her diet is a complete one to make sure she is not missing out on anything in her diet. try an oily fish as a treat to help recondition her coat. it may also be a behavioural problem, try to distract her with food or a toy or a bit of fuss when she starts grooming. sorry there are so many options but maybe you can eliminate some of these. from the picture it looks like she is missing most fur on her lower back, try putting a t-shirt or piece of material on her so it gives the fur a chance to grow back.
