    Hi there,

Dogs don't really get colds as us humans do and they cannot catch flu from a human.

There are various causes for a nasal discharge ranging from a fungal infections, something stuck in the nose, tumour.

How long has she been sick for? Given her age i would recommend taking her to the vets for a routine blood sample, 13 is a good age for a newfoundland, and unfortunatley these breeds are prone to tumours.

A blood test will show if she has any kidney or liver problems and ensure that there is no underlying infection. The next thing would be an Xray to make sure that her lungs are clear, and that there are no growths in her abdomen. Keep an eye on how much she is drinking too as the vets may also ask this.

Its difficult to pin point exactly what it would be by email and without seeing the dog, but given her age and the fact that she is havin breathing problems i would be inclined to pop her to the vet for a general check up, as if there is a problem it would be best to catch it sooner.

Heres hoping that is just some thing small.

    Regards
